BMW Engine History

  • 1910 : Not every person knows that BMW commence as a manufacturer of aircraft engines.
  • 1913 : Karl Friedrich Rapp set up "Rapp-Motorenwerke" in a former bicycle factory near Munich in October. Rapp was an engineer who takes place through the Daimler system and "Rapp-Motorenwerke" was established as a contributory of "Flugwerk", an airplane maker. He creates developed his own aircraft engines but unluckily they suffered form problems with vibrations.

Franz-Josef Popp, an Austrian engineer, going to Rapp's business. He was securing the all-important military agreement. Popp changed then the existing company into "Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH". BMW officially recognizes its birthday as March 7, 1916.
