Volvo Engine History
1927 : In Sweden, the word "Volvo" means "I roll." Volvo cars have been rolling ever since 1927, when the first vehicle "Jakob" was introduced in the city of Gothenburg.
1929 : The Jakob was attached by the six-cylinder PV651.
1931 : More than 10,000 Volvos had been introduced.
1950s : Volvo had started exporting cars to the U.S. Postwar; Volvo unveiled one of its biggest successes, the PV444 and the PV444 -- with its compact size and stylish looks -- help out the manufacturer quickly compose a name for itself in its new territory. It was the first producer to create vehicles with a three-point safety belt.
1960s : The Volvo produces a new Volvo sports car, the P1800. Protection features produced more advanced during this decade and Volvo was once again at the forefront of the action, offering features such as padded dashboards and energy-resistant crumple zones in front and rear.
1970s : Volvo distinguished itself as the exclusive home to a number of valuable new technologies.
1980s : Similar to BMWs and Saabs, Volvos turn into an American "yuppie" favorite.
1990 : Volvo produced the 850. The car was Volvo's first front-wheel-drive decision-making car, and teamed performance with the company's trademark concentration to safety.
1998 : The Company became element of the Ford family.
Today: Volvo's lineup consists of sedans, coupes and SUVs, and they're known for their combination of safety and driving excitement.
