1903 : The first car with the Vauxhall name was created. The first model was just five horsepower, had no reverse gear and cost £136 – a goodly sum at the time.
1904 : A six horsepower model reverse gear followed in and it was the following year that the company shifted to Luton in Bedfordshire, which was to be its home ever after.
1911 : Vauxhall launched the C-type, soon after known as the Prince Henry – a door-less four-seater which was effectively the first true sports car from a British manufacturer.
After the First World War : The company produced the D-type and the attractive 4.5-litre 30/98 which showed a big motor sport achievement.
1924 : The Company pulled out of motor sport to concentrate on the needs of ordinary drivers, producing the M-type, later known as the 14/40.
1925 : Vauxhall Motors became a wholly possess subsidiary of America's giant General Motors Corporation (GM) in December.
1930 : Vauxhall introduced the Cadet, with costs starting from £280.
1931 : Vauxhall Motors turn into commercial vehicle manufacturing, with the first Bedford vehicle – a two-tonner – appearing in April. The Bedford was an instant success, spawning a whole succession of buses and vans.
During the Second World War : Vauxhall churned out Churchill tanks and Bedford trucks for the armed forces and also did work on airplane jet engines.
1953 : Output topped 100,000 motor vehicles a year for the first moment and the company makes its one millionth vehicles.
1961 : Work started on a new car plant at Ellesmere Port on Merseyside.
1964 : The production beginning at Ellesmere Port on Merseyside.Vauxhall have a boom in the 60s, with nearly all families now capable to afford a car.
1975 : Vauxhall introduced the Cavalier.
1979 : Vauxhall launched the Astra.Other top-selling models consist of the Nova, the Corsa, the Vectra and more recently the Zafira and Insignia – vehicles that were to keep Vauxhall snapping at the heels of Ford as the UK's biggest-selling manufacturer.
