Toyota Celica Engine
The Toyota Celica is a vehicle that has been around for many years now. First introduced in 1970 it was meant to be a more affordable alternative to the then popular 2000GT. Much of the styling cues back then were derived from the appearance of the 1969-1970 Ford Mustang, then replicated on a much smaller scale. This had the desired effect in the market as it offered a smaller vehicle with sleek lines and economical engines which had an appeal to a larger part of the domestic market. Since its inception the Toyota Celica has gone through many design changes.1975 saw a revised front bumper and grill and also the addition of a liftback model to the lineup. In 1978 the vehicle was released with either the 4M-E engine or the M-EU engine, both were inline six configurations and both were touted as the first engines equipped with electronic fuel injection. In 1982 the third generation Celica was introduced, styling was changed considerably and power was provided by a 22-R or 22-RE engine , this was a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine which would be known as the biggest engine offered in a Celica ever. Then in 1985 the fourth generation Celica was released, it was changed completely. For the first time the Celica was introduced as a front wheel drive vehicle, the body was reshaped with rounded flowing lines and it came equipped with the 2.0 litre four cylinder engine.the GT-Four was also released at that time with full time all wheel drive, equipped with an electronically controlled central locking differential. The GT-Four came with a turbo charged 2.0 litre engine the 3S-GTE capable of producing 190 hp, this allowed the GT-Four to take an immediate place as the flagship of Toyota in the Rally Race scene.1989 saw the introduction of the fifth generation of the Toyota Celica. Body styling was once again changed dramatically with even more rounded corners upgraded wheels ,coming equipped with the the 2 litre 3S-FE, or a 3S-GE and as an option the turbo charged 3S-GTE engine.in 1993 Toyota launched the sixth generation of the Celica with even more body design changes and different power plants available. The engines available for the sixth generation were the 7A-FE (105hp), the 5S-Fe(135hp), the 3S-Ge and the 3S-GTE. The seventh generation of the Celica was Launched in 1999. Styling was once again changed and based largely on a huge effort to draw younger buyers willing to pay for good looks and smooth styling. The seventh generation came in two different models. The ZZT230 which had a 1.8 1ZZ four cylinder (140hp) engine and the ZZT31 which was a higher performance 1.4 2ZZ four cylinder (190hp). The last Celica came off the production line in April of 2006. Through its years of revisions and improvements with the Toyota Celica, Toyota has consistently provided an affordable, dependable and marketable vehicle , not only appealing to multiple generations but also suited to multiple platforms from daily drivers to rally race and custom car circuits.
