1968-69 : Subaru produced Subaru 360.
1970 : Subaru launched Subaru Star. It was 1000cc, FF-1 1300 Star with 1100 cc engine and front inboard brakes.
1971 : S.O.A launched the very first Japanese mass production front-wheel-drive car to the US, the Subaru 1000. The 1000 price $1,699 and uses the Boxer engine design still used by Subaru.
1972-73 : Subaru launched the GL, DL models. While the models changed over the years.
1974 : Subaru produced 4x4 as a 1975 model, just pull the lever for 4x4. The 4x4 is an attainment and the first mass produced Japanese 4x4 cars.
1976 : Subaru 4x4 is the car of choice for the US Ski team! They runs TV ads showing how well a Subaru does in in the snow, and advertise cheap and made to continue that way'. Subaru is the 6th major import car in the US.
1977 : Subaru is now the 5th most important import in the US. 1980-84 Subaru advertises as the Ski Car.
1981 : All Subarus now available with 4x4, turbo produced, 4x4 Hi/Lo presented starting.
1983 : Subaru set up for sale 1,000,000th car in the US.
1985 : New GL/DL, RS, and XT models launched, Hi/Lo dual range 4x4 is optional. These models are suspended. The XT identified aerodynamic styling and available for a short time in a 6cylinder.
1986 : Full time All Wheel Drive presented on certain models.
1987 : Subaru offers All-Wheel-Drive (awd) automatically varying the power delivered to wheels.
1991 : The quirky SVX luxury sport coupe 3.3L 6cylinder presented as a 1992 model.
1994 : Subaru created both AWD and On-Demand 4WD when the last model with on-demand, the Loyale, was suspended.
1997 : Suspended the SVX retains cult popularity.
1999 : Right-hand-drive Legacy postal wagon available for rural mail carriers suspended though after market alteration are available.
2000 : Subaru completely re-decorated Legacy and outback, finally offering power driver's seat, improved cupholders, driver focused dashboard, a quieter ride among other upgrading.
2001 : First 6 cylinder 4door sedan and wagon presented in all new models: LL Bean wagon, VDC wagon, VDC sedan.
2002 : Impreza redecorated, and new World Rally winning turbo Impreza WRX sedan and wagon produced after being obtainable overseas for years. The WRX is a very well-liked and confidently Subaru in the perfomance car world.
2003 : Forester redecorated (front side airbags now standard).
2004 : First year for 2.5L turbocharged Forester XT and limited production Impreza WRX-STi sedan with 300hp. Legacy L and Outback H6 available in a 35th Anniversary package.
2005 : Major 5 year redecorate for the Legacy and Outback, with all new performance turbo and higher-horsepower 6 cylinder models and other enhancement as they struggle for a high-end and performance market.
2006 : Subaru introduced the B9 Tribeca SUV with optional 7 passengers in March.
2007 : Two new 4 cylinder Outback models launched with Navigation system December: 2.5i LL Bean and 2.5i Limited LL Bean. Presented late Jan/Feb and New SE sedan model are also launched in December.
2008 : The Impreza is all new and now supported on the Legacy platform, so it truly is completely different. All models contain front, side, and front and side rear curtain airbags, Immobilizer chipped key, anti-lock brakes, power windows-locks-mirrors, a/c etc.
