Skoda Engine History

• 1895 : You might find it strange but our creators started by making push bikes! In Czechoslovakia during December, keen cyclists Vaclav Laurin (a mechanic) and Vaclav Klement (a bookseller) began designing and manufacturing bicycles. At that time, most Czechs were excitedly devoted, so they named their first company Slavia.
• 1899 : Their bicycles sold well, so Laurin and Klement make a decision to obtained the next step, and add motors. They started making motorbikes, modified the name of their company to the Laurin & Klement Co and chalked up a number of racing victories.

• 1913 : The Company established a steady position in the increasing international market.
• 1925 : Because of the financial situation in Czechoslovakia at the time, Laurin and Klement required a strong industrial partner to support and modernize their company. They were now not only manufacturing a range of cars, but also trucks, buses, aeroplane engines and agricultural machinery, such as motorized ploughs. They merged with Pizen Skodovka Co and became Skoda.
• 1933 : Skoda had some complicated times. Happily, they made a come through with the Type A Skoda Popular, which was to become a legend in the second half of the decade.
