The new Mini motorcar was introduced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in England and its task was to be a lightweight, agile four-passenger car that catches up minimal space. In a sense, the brand was born out of requirement. The United Kingdom was subject to fuel rationing in the wake of the Suez crisis, and British consumers clamored for motor vehicles that proposed optimum fuel efficiency.
- 1960 : The truly was the decade of the Mini motorcar. New difference on the car's theme came with the beginning of cars like the Mini Pickup and the Mini Moke, a vehicle that resembled a quirky cross among the Mini and a Jeep.
- 1961 : John Cooper a man, who made Formula One race cars, put his magic hands on the Mini and the end result was the ferocious Mini Cooper. His Cooper S form had (at 76 horsepower) more than double the output of the standard Mini.
- 1962 : The marque launched on American shores.
- 1964 : Along with suspension tweaks and some really good driving Mini had winning the Monte Carlo Rally four years in a row (1964-'67) and by the end of the decade, more than 2 million Mini motorcars had been formed. Sadly, the motor vehicle was pulled from the United States in the wake of strict new production convention.
- 1968 : Mini motorcars tore up the asphalt on the silver screen with the brand's look in the film, The Italian Job.
- 1970-1980 : Though no longer presented in the U.S., Mini continue in creation in Europe through by the mid-'80s, more than 5 million Minis had been introduced international.
- 1994 : The brand was obtained by the BMW Group.
- 2000 : The marque went on hiatus.
- 2002 : Mini launched the front-drive Mini Cooper hatchback. Thoroughly up to date in every way, right down to its BMW-engineered suspension, steering and brakes, the Mini Cooper has become one of America's most attractive small cars and is presented as a hatchback, convertible or the specialized Clubman.
