1946 : Hyundai is one of South Korea's most famous chaebols, or multinational, its early stages were modest. The early history of the Hyundai Company started with the beginning of Hyundai Auto Service in Seoul, South Korea, by Ju Yung-Cung. Hyundai is the Korean word for "modern."
1965 : Hyundai fulfilled a number of complex engineering and manufacturing projects, with an organize to build Thailand's first expressway.
1967 : Hyundai Motors was established with the objective of assembling Ford Coronets and Granadas for the South Korean market. Hyundai finished construction of the Ulsan factory in a record-breaking six months, the smallest ground-breaking to construction of any factory in Ford's record.
1975 : The government of South Korea developed a plan for the domestic design and making of autos. Hyundai was one of four companies, as well as Daewoo, Kia and Sangyong, who replied the call to design and create Korean cars. Hyundai offered a suggestion for a factory that could produce 80,000 cars per year, and move toward a number of companies in Japan, Germany, the U.K. and the United States facilitate to fill remaining gaps in technical awareness. ItalDesign was chosen for the overall design.
1976 : Hyundai carry on creation of Ford goods. Engineering, manufacture and managing knowledge expand during the Ford years resulted in a plan by the Korean government to established the domestic automotive industry and the first Hyundai Pony rolled off the assembly line in that year.
1978 : Exports of the Pony started. The Pony was introduced in a number of configurations, as well as a four-door sedan, a station wagon and a pickup truck.
1980 : A three-door hatchback was launched.
1982 : The advanced Pony II was produced as a five-door hatchback and a pickup truck. For the first moment in time, the Pony II presented engine options: a 1.2-, 1.4- or 1.6-liter Mitsubishi engine.
1983 : Hyundai launched a Ford Cortina derivative using an Italian-designed body with a Mitsubishi-designed engine and drive-train as a smart luxury model.
1985 : Hyundai started production of its first car to be obtained in the United States, the Excel. The Excel was Hyundai's first front-wheel-drive car, and it remained in production until 1994.
1995 : North American production started with a plant in Quebec, Canada. The Sonota was the result of these years of producing cars using parts and designs from other companies. The Sonata and Elantra were both mainly formed in Korea after the closing of the Canadian plant.
2001 : With death of Chung Ju-yung’s, Hyundai was separated up into three different companies: Hyundai Heavy Industries, the Hyundai Motor Group, and Hyundai Engineering and Construction. Today, all three Hyundai companies continue to participate successfully in the worldwide marketplace.
